I had a friend slap me one night, in the middle of a drunken pity party I was having, lamenting about whether or not I would ever have someone who loved me, and that maybe even I didn't deserve love in my life. He asked me if the slap represented how I wanted to be treated, and feeling the sting of that slap on my face, I meekly replied no. He then quite simply told me that if I stopped abusing myself, others would also do so. What a revelation. This is the place where this poem comes from....
Before you jump
Into the vast sea that is love
Take some time to repair you
And all your damaged insides
Do a good job, scrubbing away all the infected parts
Spring clean your emotional soul
Replace it with good feelings all around
Why?
Because while you may find someone who truly loves you
How they treat you in the long run
Is based on a simple premise buried down deep in your insides
That place where pure honesty resides
How YOU feel about YOU
So don't finger point
Don't get mad at love
Instead, take your time and do an honest assessment
See, because honestly
The love you receive is the mirror
Your mirror
Self-reflected
Truth hurts....
